Kostelphoto.com

Hi there,

So, we thought we would start by introducing ourselves, although I am sure you have picked up a lot of info from our business-personal blog.
We are Anna-Maria and Mark, primary photographers for Kostelphoto.com. As such we will be the ones to photograph you on your special day. Although sometimes we do second shoot for other Wedding photographers and vice versa to help out, network and support our colleagues in the industry. To get to know us and our philosophy on photography, weddings, life and our business we thought we will employ a fun reportage Q&A style. So without further a due here is lovely Anna Maria

Mark: Anna, how long have you been shooting, what is your background in photography and what do you consider the important elements of a good photographer
Anna: Well, Mark, I've had a camera in my hands since I was little, thanks to my dad. However, during university I started to seriously develop my skills courses offered at Sheridan College. A good photographer has to have a great eye & see the image in every moment as it is happening. Lighting and composition are key elements. One also has to develop a great and comfortable relationship with the client.

Mark: One piece of advice in the marketing department of our business.
Having a brand and being consistent with your marketing is definitely an asset as well as a great logo and slogan that are memorable.

Mark: Something you want to improve for our business in 2008
Anna: Keep striving to find high end products and offerings. Also building relations with other Couture Wedding Professionals, in order to deliver superior service for our Clients.

Mark: Your favoured vendor
Anna: I love stationery by Image Creative. They have amazing creativity, variety of product and great prices.

Mark: Where do you get inspired?
Anna: In everyday life, either walking down a street, talking to clients, or bouncing off ideas with you in our Brainstorming sessions and feeding off each others creative energy!

Mark: What makes me the best photographer to work with ;)
Anna: Your technical understanding of digital photography and your graphics background. You are also great with people. We have fun with each other and clients at work and that really reflects in our images.

Mark: If not a photographer I would have been a:
Anna: A real estate agent, because I love working with new people, meeting clients and showing off picture perfect homes.

Mark: Where do you meet your clients?
Anna: We invite all our clients for an informal consultation for a coffee or tea at our Home Studio Gallery.

Quickies:

Your best feature: My RED hair. It helps me stand out in a crowd. You won't have to look far to find me or recognize me.
Latest purchase: Another MAC for Mark
Something that is beautiful: Wedding Dress and Shoes
Your Secret Wedding destination: Australia

****Marks Turn****

Anna: What makes a great photograph?
Mark: I think that is a very subjective question. I believe having the correct geometry, composition merged with great or creative light would yield a work of art. As Henry would say, sensitivity in a photograph gives it its flavour.

Anna: Do you provide clients with high resolution images?
Mark: Always, I don't believe holding my Brides hostage. That is so old school. I do however recommend professional labs in order for our work to show the way it was intended, as well as for archival purposes.

Anna: What attracted you to the Wedding photography industry?
Mark: I have a degree in Biology from UofT, worked numerous jobs in health fields and forensics. But none of my jobs allowed me to have the flexibility I have now. I do work very hard, but having the freedom of your own schedule, while being able to work with amazing people during such memorable time of their lives is unparalleled. Also I have attended and participated in plenty of weddings and admired the profession.

Anna: Do you offer albums or anything else tangible besides photographs?
Mark: Absolutely, our Brides have a myriad of options from our a la carte menu as well as a vast choice of digital albums, coffee table books that are personally designed to suit our client's visions and lifestyles.

Anna:What makes you stand out of the industry?
Mark: Personality, Superior service and our products

Anna:Personality?
Mark: Yes, it is very important to be able to relate to our clients as much as possible. We want to be the best fit, and being friends with our clients not only makes our jobs that much more fun, but also spawns friendships, promotes our business and lets our Brides be loose and relaxed in front of the camera to capture the true spirit of the day.

Anna:What other photo sessions do you offer besides Weddings?
Mark: We do all types of photography. Portrait, Babies, Maternity, Product, Engagement, Preferred Vendors, Investigative, Trash the Dress... et al.

Anna: Trash the Dress?
Mark: Yeah, it's a developing trend that is just soo amazingly creative. After the wedding Brides tend to clean, pack and seal their dresses away for posterity hoping one day their daughters will reuse it. In fact that is very far from the truth. That is why this new trend developed, to get more creative inspiration from the dress after the Wedding. It is up to the Bride to see how far she wants to take it creatively. Some like to dip in the lake, fountain, some roll in the meadows and some like to get it real dirty. There is no stopping where ones creativity ends. If you keep on having fun, we will keep on clicking. Check out this video to see what I am talking about.

Quickies:
Your favourite lens: 85mm f1.4
Nikon or Canon: Nikon, what else is there? jk :) I have lots of friends shooting with C.
Your Guilty Pleasure: Chocolate, not any chocolate it must be Milka.
Something you must have: A private retreat to relax and stimulate my creativity "few times a year"
You are addicted to: Blogs, Ours, Other photographers, Mac, Geeks, Dooce, Dvorak
Who inspires you: I love the work and philosophy of Henri Cartier-Bresson as well as my soon to be wife. She is really witty, creative and unpredictable at times.
